A glossary of words used in education.

General terminology

 

EYFS2: Early Years Foundation Stage 2

Key Stage 1: Year 1 and Year 2

Key Stage 2: Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6

 

Transition: Moving up to a new class or new school

 

SATs: Statutory Assessment Tests. These are tests that children sit at the end of Year 2 and Year 6 in reading and mathematics. Pupils are also sit a grammar, spelling and punctuation test. These happen in May.

 

Curriculum evening: Teachers organise these after school for parents / carers and children to attend so that adults are better able to support pupils' learning at home

Phonics: Teaching reading skills by linking sounds to letters 

 

Golden Time: Every child has 25 minutes of Golden Time which is a reward for behaving well. Children who do not keep the Golden Rules lose Golden Time
